Thina wasn't born from a business plan.
It grew from years of personal experience on both sides of community work.
After university, our founder Jessica wanted to volunteer more consistently. Like many people, she reached out to organisations, searched for opportunities, and tried to find ways to get involved. Too often, she never heard back.
When opportunities did exist, finding them wasn't always easy. As a young woman, there was also the uncertainty of where to go, who to trust, and whether showing up alone was the right decision. Over time, volunteering became something she wanted to do rather than something she actually did.
At the same time, she experienced the challenge from the other side. While at university, Jessica co-ran a nonprofit focused on maths outreach. Every second Saturday, the team needed between 15 and 20 volunteers to support their programmes. Finding those volunteers was a constant challenge.
On one side were people wanting to help but struggling to find opportunities. On the other were organisations needing support but struggling to reach the right people. The gap was obvious. The solution wasn't.
For years, the idea remained just that: an idea. Then in 2024, after leaving her corporate career, Jessica decided it was finally time to build the thing she had been thinking about for nearly a decade.
Thina was born.
